We are so excited to introduce the newest member of the Kobo Writing Life team: Terrence! Terrence joined KWL this month and is learning the ins and outs of KWL as you read this very paragraph. He looks forward to getting to know many of the authors publishing through KWL and working on all KWL has to offer.

We thought it’d be fun to have him introduce himself to our community, and Terrence agreed to answer some of Rachel’s questions.

Hi Terrence! Welcome to the Kobo Writing Life Team! Thank you for agreeing to answer my questions. Let’s start off easy: What brought you to Kobo?

I’ve been involved in editorial, publishing, and self-publishing projects for several years, and have really been building up to a career a while now – I was drawn to Kobo, and specifically KWL, due to its uniqueness in the industry! Self-publishing and eBooks are ever evolving, and I can’t wait to be involved in that progress.

What are you most excited about in your new role at KWL?

Working with authors directly and with the amazing KWL team!

What kind of books do you like to read?

Honestly, I’ll read (mostly) anything. I’ve been in a Gothic romance/horror mood lately, but my favourite genres are nature writing (I love to read about the fantastic world of mushrooms), hybrid fiction (if it’s hard to describe what’s going on in the book, it’s got my attention), contemporary fiction and poetry.

What do you like to do in your down time? Any hobbies or favourite pastimes?

Play tons of Pokémon, visit gardens, farms, and parks, and cook!

We like to ask our podcast guests some rapid-fire book questions, and I thought it’d be fun to do the same with you!

What is the last book you read that you absolutely loved?

There’s too many to list! I’ll go with a current read that I’m loving: Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado.

What book turned you into a passionate reader?

The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Is there a book you recommend the most?

If I answered this in full, we’d be here all day! But it’s probably Autobiography of Red by Anne Carson.

Favourite book to TV/movie adaptation?

Another tough one, but I’m going to say Pride & Prejudice (yes, the 2005 one) for nostalgia’s sake.

Favourite book to give as a gift?

I have to live. by Aisha Sasha John.

Do you like audiobooks, and if so, do you have one you’d recommend?

Check back in on this one in a few months – I have lots of catching up to do on audiobooks…

Any other random facts about yourself you’d like to add?

Only that one of my biggest flaws is asking for more book recommendations when my TBR pile is already tipping my bookshelf over. So, on that note, got any books you think I should read?

Please join us in giving Terrence a warm welcome to Kobo Writing Life!
