We are so thrilled to introduce the newest member of the Kobo Writing Life team, Vanessa! Vanessa has been working at Kobo as as intern on our content team for the past year, and we are so excited for her to officially join the KWL team — especially Rachel who now (finally) has someone to discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer with. Vanessa will be helping us keep things running smoothly as well as assisting the Kobo Originals team. It’s only her third week on the job and she’s already keeping busy!

We thought it’d be fun to have Vanessa introduce herself to our community and she graciously agreed to answer some of Rachel’s burning questions.

Vanessa! Thank you for agreeing to answer my questions. Let’s start off easy: What brought you to Kobo?

Hey Rachel! So excited to be on board with KWL and Originals. I have a background in professional writing from York University, with a focus on eBooks. I had always used my Kobo to read, so I was of course drawn to work at one of my favorite companies.

What are you most excited about in your new role at KWL and at Kobo Originals?

I think the most exciting aspect of my job is going to be communicating with authors! I love talking one on one with writers, and am happy to be a small part in their journey of publishing.

What kind of books do you like to read?

Romance, of course. Specifically fantasy romance. Specifically specifically women with swords who save their men from sudden doom.

What do you like to do in your down time? Any hobbies or favourite pastimes?

As boring as it sounds, my down time is mostly reading spicy romance novels. But I do love video games, being super nerdy, and cosplaying at Fanexpo every year.

We’ve started asking our podcast guests some rapid fire book questions, and I thought it’d be fun to do the same with you!

What is the last book you read that you absolutely loved?  Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Morena – Garcia. It was amazing.

What book turned you into a passionate reader? A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, a classic!

Is there a book you recommend the most? Battle Royale by Koshun Takami

Favourite book to TV/movie adaptation? The Princess Bride definitely.

Do you like audiobooks, and if so, do you have one you’d recommend? I always find I can read three books wayyyy faster than listening to one, so I don’t listen to audiobooks often.

Any other random facts about yourself you’d like to add?

Just that I can’t wait to connect with the KWL community and chat Buffy with you!

Please join us in giving Vanessa a warm welcome to Kobo Writing Life!
