We always want to make sure all of our authors are up to date with everything that KWL has to offer. Here are five things you may not know about KWL:
1. Promo Codes
One big request we get from authors is for personalized promo codes, and I’m happy to tell you that we can do that! Whether you want to offer a discount as a newsletter incentive, or you want to give copies of your book to potential reviewers, we can set you up with personalized promo codes for any occasion. Just send us an email and let us know what you’d like the discount to be, which book(s) it applies to, and how many times it can be used and we’d be more than happy to help you out.
2. The Promo Tool
There are so many different types of promotions available to our KWL authors! From advertising your free titles on our free pages to securing a spot on our Daily Deals page to joining a Kobo wide discount sale, you can apply to all of these on the promo tab on the dashboard! Because we’re still working to perfect how our promo tool works it’s technically still in beta, which is why you may not see it on your dashboard. However, getting it activated is easy! All you have to do is email us at: writinglife@kobo.com and we’d be more than happy to activate it for you.
3. Box Sets
If you have a long-running series, or even a duology or trilogy, consider making your books available as a box set. Kobo readers LOVE box sets! What’s more is many readers don’t view box sets as a way to get a discount, but rather a convenient way to buy multiple books at once. So you don’t have to worry about losing a huge profit by discounting your titles, plus our 70% royalty policy doesn’t have a cap! As long as your box set is priced over $2.99, you’ll maintain your 70% royalties! (For advice on how to build a box set, you should check out this blog post.)
4. Audiobooks
Did you know KWL has audiobooks? You can directly upload your audio files to KWL and make your audiobook available within 24 to 72 hours! Much like your eBooks, your audiobooks don’t need to be exclusive with Kobo. For a la carte purchases over $2.99, you’ll receive up to 45% royalties (35% for audiobooks under $2.99) and for subscription service purchases, 32%. Like our promo tool, we’re still perfecting our audiobook process which is why you might not see it on your dashboard. If you’d like to have it activated, just let us know! Send us an email here: writinglife@kobo.com
5. Booktopia
On April 1st, Kobo launched their newest partnership with the Australian bookseller Booktopia. This means that we have one more storefront for you to reach your readers in addition to our already great list of partners. To fully take advantage of these partnerships, make sure your books are available worldwide (unless a previous rights agreement prevents this) and ensure you’re optimizing your international pricing to fully take advantage of our partnerships! Prices that end in .99 always look nicer than those ending in .42.
If you have any questions about these tools and ideas, please let us know in the comments! Additionally, if you have any advice that you want to pass onto our community, either drop a line in the comments or, if your expertise goes beyond the comment section, shoot us an email about writing a blog post! Happy writing!
