  • Winman explains the historical context of the novel, and why she chose to tell the story in a non-linear timeline, focusing on memories as anchor points for the narrative.
  • The title of the novel evokes the Wizard of Oz in many readers, but is in fact more literal and refers to car factory workers.
  • The exploration of gender roles in the novel and in society, and the courage of defying those roles.
  • The significance of Van Gogh’s sunflowers and the themes of journeying and light.
  • Her own ten-year journey to completing the novel: from her background as an actress and scriptwriter to the creative writing course where she wrote the first version of Tin Man––which wouldn’t be completed for another 10 years.
  • Winman also narrated the audio version of all three of her books, and chats to Chrissy about the experience of creating the audio version.
  • And lots more!
