NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) began today! Wishing all you NaNoNovelists a fantastic month of writing!

If you haven’t started yet, don’t worry. There’s no better time than the present.

The good folks at NaNoWriMo have all kinds of great content to help keep you motivated, including daily pep talks. Here is the first one from Daniel José Older, whose words of inspiration stem from a poem by Antonio Machado: “Caminante no hay camino / se hace camino al andar.” (“Walker, there is no path / the path is made by walking.”)

Random NaNoWriMo Tip: Don’t think too much or worry about proper spelling or grammar. Those impede your ability to get that first draft completed as quickly as possible. This exercise of NaNoWriMo is about the act and habit of writing. One word after another. Editing or doing research as you go just introduces delays that prevent you from hitting that daily 1666 word goal. Just lay down word after word. Worry about editing, research, grammar, etc. during the second draft.
