It’s day 8 of National Novel Writing Month, which is perfect timing to listen to some excellent inspiration from Grant Faulkner, Executive Director of NaNoWriMo. He just published a nonfiction book, Pep Talks for Writers: 52 Insights and Actions to Boost Your Creative Mojo. Christine Munroe spoke with him about how to stay committed to daily creativity.
- “You don’t need permission to be a creator.” Do you suffer from “other syndrome”? The truth is, anyone who writes, is by nature a writer. That means you!
- Pep Talk #5: Make Your Creativity Into a Routine. What are the essentials of a successful writing routine?
- Accept the Mess, #18. Grant writes, “The creative process just isn’t neat, no matter how you approach it.” You have to challenge yourself to silence your inner critic and editing eye in order to get your creative ideas onto the page.
- You’re a writer. You are also a human who needs to exercise, eat, sleep, etc. Figure out what physical realities of your everyday life fuel your creativity. Grant finds that daily walks help him come up with new ideas.
